Penelope and The Ghost Treasure A Penelope Mystery eBook Ron D Voigts Reviews
Penelope's ability to get in and out of danger at her prep school equals her inquisitive nature. That nature exceeds the adults in this quirky, funny, and endearing story of a young girl who must solve her own problems even if they include murder, ghosts, and treasures, AND the roadblocks adults put in her way. So myopic are the adult's attention, Penelope at times becomes her own McGuffin. Brilliant. Ron's ability to create an enjoyable YA story that adults can enjoy is admirable.
This book picks up where the last Penelope book left off. She's on her way to start boarding school - and more than a little miserable about the prospect. And no wonder, on the first day of school she earns the nickname "teacher Killer". things can only get worse from there.
With a new batch of zanny, off beat characters, and a visit from a few old ones, this was easily as good as the first book, if not better. Again, I would recommend this for 10 +. Also of note, it's not necessary to have read the first book in order to enjoy this one, though it does make it better.
As to the mystery? I did solve a portion of the mystery (no telling which bit) but not all of it. Well done, again, Mr. Voigts!
I think he does. As a terribly awkward pre-teen and young teenager, I felt every sting of pain and rejection as Penelope and her nerdy friends. My parents were rampant over-achievers and living up to their expectations was difficult.
This story is funny, filled with typical quirky Voigts characters, including the returning and slightly nefarious Uncle Bert, who appeared in The Birthday Curse. It's a rolicking murder mystery and starts only seconds after Penelope enters her first class in prep-school. Her teacher literally drops dead in front of her and the whole class. There follows a series of adventures, both serious and hilarious, as Penelope once again must solve the crime.
A wonderful book, and great for the whole family.

Ron Voigts knows how to tell a good tale, and each Penelope story gets better. Do yourself a favor. Buy two copies of this book. Give one to a pre-teen who likes a good mystery. Keep the other one for yourself to enjoy at the end of a long day. This book is just a fun read.
